We have been living in the UK for over 20 years and as you might know we originally come from the Maltese Islands, right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Rabbit is one of the most popular dishes in Malta.
It happens to most of us expats that we miss our own country food so we have decided to try and buy the rabbit from our local butcher (mind you it is very dear!) but we went for it.
We prepared it as it shows on the video on our website and also cooked it the same way. My wife Roberta and I were so excited, as all foreigners do when they cook their favourite dish. Colour looked good, smell was amazing but when we had the first bite we were so surprised and looked to each other in disbilief. The taste was so so different and nothing like the Maltese Rabbit we know.
So we have started looking for information on why and how rabbits which are cooked the same way in different countries but they taste so different. Drum roll please…….
The answer is the type of feed they use (here you go), the feed they use make the rabbits taste so different! Which makes total sense.
Next time when you’re about to cook a rabbit please take good care of the taste. I will assure you that no rabbit cooked the Maltese way will taste as good as the one in Maltaš
